To reset the oil change indicator light on your 2018 Jeep Renegade, push the engine start/stop button with your foot off the brake, but don’t start the engine. Then, press the gas pedal three times within ten seconds, and turn your Jeep back off.
Depending on the type of conditions that you drive your Jeep in, you could need an oil change
more frequently than you might suspect! Fortunately, your Renegade comes with a helpful oil change indicator light that tells you when it’s due. Once you’ve got your oil changed, the oil change indicator light needs to be manually reset, but don’t worry—it’s quick and easy, and we’ve put together this helpful guide on just how to do it.

If you’ve just changed the oil
on your 2018 Jeep Renegade, good for you! Changing your own oil not only saves you money, but it’s also pretty satisfying! After you’ve cleaned up and scrubbed under your fingernails, there’s still one more little task to do. You’ll need to reset the oil change indicator light on your Jeep, otherwise, it won’t be able to keep track of when you’re due for your next oil change.
But don’t worry—it’s quick and easy to do! Here’s how:
With your foot off the brake pedal, press the “Engine Start/Stop” button to cycle the ignition to the “on/run” position, but do not start the engine.
Slowly press the accelerator pedal all the way down three times within a period of ten seconds—make sure you’re in park and the engine is not on first.
With your foot still off the brake pedal, press the “Engine Start/Stop” button once to return the ignition to the “off/lock” position.
The next time you start your Renegade, the oil change indicator light should be off (until it’s time to change your oil again, that is). If it doesn’t work, you can repeat the whole reset process again. If it still doesn’t turn off, then there may be a problem with the system itself, and you should take your Jeep to a dealership or mechanic to have it checked out.

How often does a 2018 Jeep Renegade need an oil change?
If you don’t get an oil change
when your Jeep is requesting it, it’s not only rude, it could result in some serious engine damage. This is one area where you most definitely do not want to be a Renegade. The intervals at which Jeep recommends oil changes on a 2018 Renegade vary from every 3,500 miles to as much as every 10,000 miles. The big variable? The kind of driving you do and the terrain that you drive in.
If you take your Jeep off-roading a lot and/or it’s in a very dusty environment, then it will likely be asking for an oil change every 3,000 to 4,000 miles. If your Renegade never leaves the pavement, you might be able to get away with changing your oil every 10,000 miles.
But no matter what, Jeep states that you should never exceed 10,000 miles, one year, or 350 hours of engine run time without changing your oil and oil filter. Okay, rule time is over—now you carry on with your Renegade self.
