What is the Jeep Cherokee oil type?
My brother will be giving me his Jeep Cherokee before I head to college and I want to make sure that I take care of it with regular maintenance. I plan to refill the engine oil myself to save on some cost—what oil type does it need?

depends on its model year and engine type. For example, a 2019 2.0L V6 Cherokee will require 5W-40 synthetic oil, whereas a 2018 3.2L V6 Cherokee requires SAE 0W-20 synthetic oil.Referring to the owner’s manual is the best way to find out which oil is recommended for your Cherokee.
It is recommended to check your engine oil levels while the engine is cold. Follow the steps below to see if your engine needs more oil:
- With the engine off, wipe the dipstick and insert it back into the tube
- Pull the dipstick out and look at the top of the stick
- If the oil level is under the bottom line, you will need to refill the engine oil
Add a quart of oil at a time to prevent overfilling the engine. Then, wait several minutes to check the oil level. Repeat until your oil level is between the two lines on the dipstick.
