2017 Nissan Armada engine oil capacity

Your 2017 Nissan Armada has a 5.6-liter V8 engine with an oil capacity of 6.9 quarts (1.73 gallons) or 6.5 liters
Knowing the difference between engine oil capacity and displacement is important—these terms are not the same! Your
engine displacement
, or the 1.4 liters mentioned in the engine type, is the volume taken up by the engine's cylinders. While on the other hand, the engine oil capacity is the amount needed for each oil change.

What kind of oil does a 2017 Nissan Armada need?

A general rule of thumb is to always reference your owner’s manual for info on your car’s oil needs. In the case of your 2017 Nissan Armada, your engine needs 0W-20 synthetic motor oil
You may be wondering what the oil type means, especially if you’re new to oil changes! All oils are assigned a type code to communicate the range of temperatures in which the oil is effective
Here’s a closer look at how to decode engine oil types:
  • You can determine the oil’s viscosity (thickness) by the numbers in the oil type—the “0” in 0W-20 means that the oil has a low density below 0°F, whereas the “20” means that it can also retain its viscosity at temperatures up to 212°F.
  • “W” stands for “winter,” meaning that the oil is suitable for cold-weather climates.
When shopping for engine oil, always stick to the manufacturer’s recommendation. For your Nissan Armada, the manufacturer recommends using only a synthetic oil blend weighted 0W-20.
Before visiting your hardware shop, be warned that there is a seemingly endless selection of 0W-20 motor oils available. To start your shopping on the right foot, the owner's manual recommends the use of Genuine Nissan Motor Oil 0W-20.

How often to change the oil on a 2017 Nissan Armada

Nissan recommends changing the oil in your 2017 Armada every 3,000 to 5,000 miles as part of your
basic car maintenance schedule
. This is still a significant range! A good rule is to check your vehicle’s oil levels every other refuel or once a month.
Look out for these common signs that your engine oil needs to be changed are:
  • Strange noises coming from the engine
  • Uncommon smells such as oil, smoke, or burning
  • Worsening performance
  • Dark and gritty oil

How to change your oil and your oil filter

If you’ve decided that your Nissan is due for an
oil and filter change
, why not try this easy maintenance task at home? Here’s a step-by-step guide to changing your vehicle's oil.
Before starting, gather your tools. You need a 27-mm socket wrench, drain pan, filter wrench, new drain bolt washer, replacement filter, and enough 0W-20 engine oil for your 2017 Nissan Armada.
Start the process by running your car’s engine to warm it to the normal operating temperature. Once it’s reached this optimal temperature, turn the engine OFF and pop the hood open.
Then, follow these steps to change the oil:
  • Remove the oil fill cap.
  • Slide underneath the engine to access the oil drain bolt and washer. Position the drain pan directly under the drain bolt.
  • Remove the oil drain bolt and washer, then drain the old oil into the pan.
  • Remove the old oil filter and let the oil continue to drain.
  • Install the new oil filter.
  • Reattach the oil drain bolt and use a new washer to tighten it—make sure to tighten the cap to 20-ft lb.
  • Now, you can refill the engine with new oil from the top of the engine
  • Use your dipstick to make sure you added enough oil.
  • Finally, replace the oil fill cap.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Close the hood and run the engine for a few minutes. While the engine is running, keep an eye out for oil leaks—if you spot a leak, you likely installed the filter or oil drain bolt incorrectly. If the oil is filled correctly, the
oil pressure light
on your dashboard will turn off
Once you’ve tested your handy work, you’re almost done! The final step is cleaning up. Do not dispose of the dirty oil by pouring it on the ground or in your garbage can. Instead, pour the dirty oil into a sealed container and take it to your local recycling center to dispose of it safely. Once you've done so, you've successfully finished your DIY oil change.
