background
To perform a 2015 Hyundai Sonata oil reset, you’ll need to switch the engine on, find and press the “OK” button on the top right of your steering wheel for more than one second, and then turn the engine off.
Technically, the 2015 Hyundai Sonata does not have an oil reset procedure, as it uses a more generalized “service required” message to indicate that
routine maintenance
of some kind must be addressed. In most cases, however, this message will mean an oil change is necessary, after which the service interval will need to be reset.
To spare you the difficulty of figuring out this process on your own, we’ve put together the following guide detailing everything you need to know about performing a 2015 Hyundai Sonata oil reset and when to change your oil.

How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Your 2015 Hyundai Sonata uses an oil monitoring system to keep tabs on your oil level—when it starts to get low, the system will trigger a “service required” message on your dashboard as a warning, reminding you to top off or
change your oil
.
In order for the system to keep track of this information, however, it has to be manually reset after each oil change—if you have a mechanic change your oil, they’ll usually do this for you, but if they forget or if you’re changing your Sonata’s oil at home, you can perform an oil reset using the instructions below:
  1. Switch the ignition on and let the engine run.
  2. Find the “OK” button on the top right of your steering wheel.
  3. Press and hold the “OK” button for more than one second. This will reset the service interval to the default setting.
  4. Turn the engine off and then start it again to verify that the “service required” message is gone and that the indicator has been reset.
It should be noted that for the “service required” message to be displayed in the first place, the service interval feature must be turned on and set by the user. This can be done by following the steps listed below:
  1. Press the “MODE” button on the top right of the steering wheel.
  2. Highlight the “INFORMATION” menu.
  3. Press the “OK” button to access the menu.
  4. Use the direction keypad buttons to turn the “SERVICE INTERVAL” mode on and then set the desired interval.
You will probably only ever have to set this interval once, unless you switch over from conventional motor oil to synthetic motor oil or vice versa, as synthetic oil does not need to be changed as often.

How often does a 2015 Hyundai Sonata need an oil change?

If you’re using conventional motor oil, Hyundai recommends changing your Sonata’s oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, which amounts to roughly once every six months or about twice per year. If you decide to use a longer-lasting synthetic motor oil, however, you can go longer between oil changes—about 7,500 to 10,000 miles.
Of course, that isn’t to say you shouldn’t check your oil between those intervals—in fact, most experts recommend that you check your oil at least once a month. This is largely due to the fact that certain driving conditions (such as driving in extreme temperatures or on dirt roads) can lead to premature oil contamination, resulting in more frequent oil changes.
When you do go to change your 2015 Hyundai Sonata’s oil, make sure you use 5W-20 or 5W-30 engine oil—these numbers speak to the oil’s viscosity at certain temperatures and using the wrong oil can have disastrous consequences for your engine.
If you don’t have the proper tools or if you just don’t want to get your hands dirty, you can have your Sonata’s oil changed at your local automotive repair shop or dealership—expect to pay between $80 and $105 for the service.
