How to reset the engine oil pressure light on a 2013 Hyundai Sonata
Your 2013 Hyundai Sonata uses an oil monitoring system to keep tabs on your oil pressure—when it starts to get low, the system will trigger the Engine Oil Light (shaped like an oil can) on your dashboard as a warning, reminding you to top off or
change your oil
.If this light comes on while you are driving, it is recommended that you pull over as soon as possible, check the oil, and add oil as needed. If the oil level is fine or if you add oil and the light remains on, Hyundai recommends calling an authorized Hyundai dealer to deal with the issue.
If you know that the light itself is simply malfunctioning and that nothing is actually wrong with your oil or your oil pressure sensors, you can try to reset the light yourself using the following steps:
- Make sure your vehicle is turned off.
- Disconnect the battery.
- Wait five minutes.
- Reconnect the battery.
If this does not shut off the Oil Pressure Light, you’ll need to follow Hyundai’s recommendations and contact your local Hyundai dealership to have their mechanics take a look at what might be causing the issue.

How often does a 2013 Hyundai Sonata need an oil change?
If you stick with conventional motor oil, the experts over at Hyundai recommend changing your 2013 Hyundai Sonata’s oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, or roughly every six months. You do, however, have the option of using longer-lasting, synthetic motor oil, which only needs to be changed every 7,500 to 10,000 miles.
Now, that doesn’t mean you can get away with not checking your oil between those intervals—in fact, it’s typically recommended that you check your oil once or twice a month. This is mainly due to the fact that certain driving conditions (such as regular driving on dirt roads or in extreme temperatures) can lead to premature oil contamination, which in turn means more frequent oil changes.
