How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2014 Mazda 3

The 2014 Mazda 3 oil maintenance light is designed to come on when it’s time for an oil change, but it will need to be reset after each of those oil changes to be able to properly track the time between maintenance appointments (or at-home
scheduled maintenance
, if you’re the DIY type).
Mazda
made it pretty easy to reset the system, thankfully. All you’ll need to do is follow a few simple steps and take some cues from your control center screen’s main menu:
  • Turn on the ignition—but you don’t need to start the engine
  • Use the main control button in the center console to select the Applications button from the main menu on the infotainment screen
  • Select “Maintenance” from the Applications menu
  • Select “Oil Change”
  • Select “Reset”. Another screen will appear prompting you to confirm this reset—go ahead and confirm
Now your Mazda is ready to start that oil change countdown all over again. When it’s time for the next change, that light will pop back on.

How often does a 2014 Mazda 3 need an oil change?

Mazda recommends using full synthetic 0W-20 motor oil in the 2014 Mazda 3. Full synthetic oil needs to be changed every 12 months or 10,000 miles in order to keep your engine operating at peak performance.
Your engine oil filter should also be changed whenever you change your oil. You can find the directions for changing your oil and oil filter in your owner's manual if you prefer to change it yourself. You can also opt to take it to a mechanic for this service, but be prepared to pay between $60 and $100 each time
If you have changed your oil and already tried to reset the oil light at home with no luck, you may need to bring your Mazda 3 to a dealership or auto shop to be sure there isn’t a larger issue at work.
