2014 Honda CR-V engine oil capacity

The 2014 CR-V sports a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with an oil capacity of 4.2 quarts with a filter.
Note that your oil capacity—the amount of oil you need for an oil change—is different from your engine’s 2.4-liter displacement, which is the volume taken up by the engine’s cylinders. These numbers are not interchangeable.

What kind of oil does a 2014 Honda CR-V need?

OK, so your CR-V needs 4.2 quarts of oil, but what kind? Not all oils are the same, and it’s crucial to use the type of oil recommended by your Honda owner’s manual. For a 2014 CR-V, you’ll need to search for a 0W-20 full synthetic oil
This can look foreign if you’re unfamiliar with oil types, so let’s break it down. The numbers in the oil grade tell you the oil’s viscosity, or its thickness. The “W” stands for winter, and the 0 before it tells us that this oil has a low viscosity at 0 degrees F, and the 20 tells us it’s still thin at full operating temperature.
This oil is designed to perform well in the cold winter months, and its low viscosity will protect the engine better at lower temperatures. Using the recommended synthetic oil also protects your engine more than conventional oil would.
For best results, stick to Honda's recommendation and use

How often to change the oil on a 2014 Honda CR-V

Now that you know the details on your 2014 Honda CR-V’s oil capacity and type, you’re ready to
change your oil
!
When you’re using synthetic oil or a synthetic blend, you should plan to change your oil every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. This is a wide range, so to be safe, you should check your oil levels about once a month. You should also be on the lookout for any signs your oil needs changing:
  • Your oil looks dark brown or black. Clean oil will be light brown or amber.
  • Your motor oil is gritty or coarse.
  • You’re hearing unfamiliar noises from the engine.
  • You smell new scents, especially anything smelling like oil, smoke, or burning.
  • Your vehicle’s performance has changed in any way.

How to change your oil and oil filter

When your CR-V is ready for an oil change, get your tools and materials together. You’ll need a socket wrench, a drain pan, and a filter wrench to remove the old filter. Be sure you have your replacement filter and 4.2 quarts of 0W-20 synthetic motor oil
First off, turn on your CR-V’s engine for about five to 10 minutes so it can reach normal operating temperature. Then turn off the engine, open your hood, and follow these instructions:
  • Remove your oil cap.
  • Place the drain pan underneath your car’s engine.
  • Remove the drain bolt with a 17mm socket wrench, draining all of the old oil into the drain pan.
  • While the oil drains, remove the oil filter.
  • Place the new oil filter.
  • Replace the old drain bolt with a new drain bolt using a new washer, and tighten it with the 17mm socket wrench.
  • Add the new oil to your engine and replace the oil cap.
Use your dipstick to check your oil level to make sure you’ve added enough. When you’re all done, start your vehicle for a couple of minutes, keeping an eye out for any leaks around the filter or drain plug.
When it’s time to clean up, remember to dispose of your old oil correctly. Never dump your dirty oil on the ground, in the garbage, or down a drain. You can take your old oil to your local recycling center, an auto parts store, or a quick lube center.
