How much engine oil do you need for a 2015 Honda CR-V oil change?

Your 2015 CR-V engine oil capacity is 4.6 quarts of oil, or 4.4 liters
You may remember that your car has a “2.4-liter engine.” This is known as its engine displacement, or the volume your engine’s cylinders take up. The oil capacity is how much engine oil your Honda can hold, which is what you need for the oil change.

What kind of oil does a 2015 Honda CR-V need?

Now that you know how much oil your CR-V needs, what kind of oil should you look for?
This isn't something you should skimp on, so don't buy the cheapest bottle on the shelf—not all engine oils are created equal! Honda recommends Honda Genuine Synthetic Blend Motor Oil 0W-20.
You need to make sure you’re purchasing 0W-20 oil. Here’s what those numbers mean. The numbers in the oil grade refer to the oil's viscosity (thickness), and the W stands for winter. So 0W means when the oil is at its thickest, it is still thin enough to provide proper protection in cold weather and cold engine starts. The 20 shows the viscosity grade at boiling temperature.
Engine oils generally come in three categories:
  • Full synthetic: Engineered oil with additives, longest lasting, most expensive
  • Synthetic blend: Combination of synthetic and conventional oils, mid-priced
  • Conventional: Refined crude oil that still maintains some natural properties, shortest performance, cheapest
Honda advises going with a full synthetic or synthetic blend. Keep in mind that veering away from the manufacturer's recommendation can void your warranty.

How often to change oil on a 2015 Honda CR-V

Now that you know all about your engine oil, how do you know when to
change your oil
?
Honda recommends changing your oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. However, this is for if you went with the synthetic blend. If you splurged and went with a high-grade full synthetic, you can stretch your oil change to every 7,000-10,000 miles!
We know those are pretty big ranges. To make sure you're changing the oil at the right time, check your oil level and quality regularly. Take a quick peek at every other fuel up and look out for the following signs that your oil needs to be changed:
  • Dark brown or black oil (clean oil is a translucent light brown or amber, like a cup of tea)
  • Motor oil feels coarse or gritty
  • Burning smell
  • Changes in your vehicle's performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

Now that you are ready to tackle your first oil change, get your materials ready:
  • Socket wrench
  • Drain pan
  • Filter wrench
  • Replacement filter
  • 0W-20 engine oil
It's best to change your oil while it’s warm, so run your car for about five minutes to get it up to normal operating temperature. Then turn off the engine, pop the hood, and get started:
  • Remove the oil fill cap
  • Get yourself and the drain pan underneath the engine and remove the oil drain bolt and washer
  • Draining the old oil directly into the drain pan
  • Remove the old oil filter and install the new one
  • Replace the oil drain bolt with a new washer and tighten it to 29 lb-ft
  • Refill the engine with clean oil
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
Check the dipstick to make sure enough oil was added and let the car run for a few minutes to monitor leaks. If you've done everything right, your dashboard's
oil pressure light
should turn off, and you are good to go!
Well, almost, the last step is cleanup. Don't dump the dirty oil out on the ground, down the water drain, or put it in your garbage bin. Pour the dirty oil back into the now empty oil containers, and drop it off at your local recycling center
