2013 Lincoln MKX climate control reset instructions

When it comes to climate control malfunctions, electrical issues are one of the most frequent culprits. If you notice hot air blowing from the air vents in your 2013 Lincoln MKX, resetting the automatic climate control is the easiest fix.
Think of resetting the automatic climate control like a classic IT reboot, just turn the system off and on again. Here’s how to reset the automatic climate control system in your 2013 Lincoln MKX:
Step 1: Turn your engine off. You don’t want your car engine to be running while you handle the car battery.
Step 2: Locate the car battery. The car battery should be located in the trunk of your Lincoln MKX. You can also check your
Lincoln
owner’s manual for the exact location of your car battery.
Step 3: Disconnect the negative battery cable. Use a wrench to loosen the bolt that holds the black negative battery cable in place and carefully pull off the cable to remove it.
Step 4: Disconnect the positive battery cable. Repeat the same process above to remove the red positive battery cable.
Step 5: Wait 60 seconds and reconnect your car battery. Reattach the negative battery cable and then the positive battery cable to reconnect your car battery. Don’t forget to tighten the bolts!
Your 2010 Lincoln MKX’s climate control system should reset itself after you’ve disconnected and reconnected the car battery. If the air conditioning is still blowing hot air or not working, it’s time for you to troubleshoot.

Other reasons your 2013 Lincoln MKX A/C isn’t working

Resetting the automatic control system will fix most electrical issues causing your A/C to malfunction but not all. However, if the climate control reset failed, you could also be dealing with another problem altogether. Here are some other common reasons your MKX’s automatic climate control isn’t working.

Blown HVAC fuse

You’ll need to locate the fuse box in your Lincoln MKX and disconnect the HVAC fuse to inspect it. If you see corrosion or other signs of damage, you will need to replace the fuse before your HVAC system can come back online.

Low refrigerant fluid

If your Lincoln MKX air conditioning is blowing hot air, you may not have enough refrigerant fluid in your system. Refilling your refrigerant should fix the problem. However, if the refrigerant level drops quickly, you may have a leak that needs to be repaired.

Undercharged or overcharged A/C

Undercharged and overcharged A/C systems will also blow hot air in the Lincoln MKX. If refilling your refrigerant didn’t work, you can recharge your A/C system with a do-it-yourself recharge kit or check the refrigerant pressure and let some refrigerant fluid out if the reading is above the manufacturer's recommended pressure.

Dirty condenser

Because the air conditioning condenser is located in the front of your MKX behind the bumper, it is especially prone to grime and soot build-up, which hinders cabin airflow. When the air can’t flow through the dirty condenser mesh it causes poor cooling. Cleaning the condenser is the easiest way to fix this issue.

Faulty A/C compressor

The
A/C compressor
is one of the most important components of your HVAC system, pumping refrigerant through the system and converting coolant into a liquid that cools the air coming from the vents. You’ll have to replace the compressor if it fails to get your air conditioning working again.

How to diagnose a 2013 Lincoln MKX climate control malfunction

We’ve only just begun to cover the potential problems that could cause your MKX’s climate control to malfunction. It could also be a bad blend door actuator, clogged expansion valve, overcharged oil, dirty evaporator, or faulty climate control unit. To curtail unnecessary repair expenses, it’s important to properly diagnose the problem before attempting any repairs.
You can use an onboard diagnostics (OBD) scan tool to narrow down the source of the automatic climate control problem by
getting a trouble code
and finding the correct fix. If you don’t already own one, go to your local auto parts store to buy or borrow one.
Taking your Lincoln to a mechanic to have your A/C system thoroughly inspected and properly diagnosed will ensure you find out what exactly is causing the malfunction. Just be sure the mechanic has the proper HVAC repair training and certifications before.
