2011 Honda Accord engine oil capacity

First, you need to determine how much oil you need to buy to change your 2011 Honda Accord’s oil. The 2011 Honda Accord has an engine oil capacity of 4 quarts
You may remember that your Accord has a 2.4-liter engine. This is not your engine oil capacity, but rather the volume your engine’s cylinders take up.
Take care not to confuse oil capacity with engine displacement in the future.

What kind of oil does a 2011 Honda Accord need?

There are so many types of motor oil out there, and it can be confusing if you don’t know where to start. The 2011 Honda Accord runs optimally on 0W-20 grade motor oil
The numbers in this grade indicate the relative viscosity (thickness) of the oil at different operating temperatures, and the lower the numbers, the thinner the oil is. This means that your 0W-20 oil is some of the thinnest engine oil around at both cold temperatures (0W) and normal operating temperatures (20).

How often to change oil on a 2011 Honda Accord

Before you can get ready for an oil change, you need to be able to recognize when your Honda Accord needs one.
It’s common practice to change your Honda’s oil every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. But since that can be a pretty big range, it’s good to get into the habit of checking on your engine after every other refuel. Look out for:
  • Dirty motor oil. Motor oil should be light in color, and if you notice it getting darker and coarse, you should change it
  • Screeching sounds
  • Burning smells
  • Performance issues, such as decreased fuel efficiency

How to change your oil and oil filter

Now you’re ready to change your Honda’s oil! Have a socket wrench, drain pan, filter wrench, new filter, and 0W-20 motor oil ready to go.
First, warm up your vehicle and wait until it reaches normal operating temperature (usually five minutes will do the trick). It might take longer in colder temperatures, but once it’s ready, turn the engine off and open the hood.
Then, follow these steps:
  • Remove the oil fill cap and screw off the oil drain bolt and washer. Once you do so, have your drain pan ready to catch the old oil, which will begin flowing out
  • Replace the old filter with a new one
  • Screw the oil drain bolt and washer back on, and fill up the engine with oil
  • Use the dipstick as an indicator of when you’ve added enough oil
  • Check for leaks by running the engine again
  • Get rid of your waste properly. Gather the old dirty oil in a sealable container and drop it off at a participating auto parts store or recycling center
If you’ve followed the correct steps and successfully changed your oil,
your car's oil pressure light
should turn off.
