How can I fix the power steering assist fault on my Ford Mustang?
How do I fix my Ford Mustang’s fault power steering assist? I don’t understand why it’s not working properly anymore.

Having issues with your steering is scary and should be addressed immediately. Low power steering fluid is the most common cause for faulty power steering.
Check if your steering wheel light is on. If it is, turn off the car and check your fluid levels as soon as it is safe to do so. You can access the power steering fluid under the hood, most often on the passenger side of your Mustang. The word “Steering” will be on the lid.
- Wipe the lid clean of dirt so you don’t soil the steering fluid when you open the lid.
- Pull out the dipstick, wipe it with a clean cloth, and fully insert it.
- Check the dipstick again, and make sure the fluid is above the minimum line.
If your steering fluid is low, you should top it off with the correct fluid type and the light should turn off.
If you’re not somewhere you can easily access power steering fluid and you don’t have someone that can bring some to you, it’s probably best to tow your vehicle to a mechanic and have them top off your fluid for you.
