2008 Suzuki Boulevard M50 engine oil capacity

The 805cc (cubic centimeters) M50 motor in your Suzuki Boulevard holds 3.6 quarts or about 3.4 liters of motor oil.
Eight hundred five cubic centimeters is about 0.8 liters, but it’s important to remember the difference between engine displacement—the 805-cubic centimeter volume occupied by your bike’s cylinders—and engine oil capacity, which is the 3.6 quarts of oil the engine holds to use as a lubricant.
Engine displacement and oil capacity are different numbers and never interchangeable.

What kind of oil does a 2008 Suzuki Boulevard M50 need?

Now that you know how much oil to put in your 2008 Suzuki Boulevard M50, you need to know what type of oil it requires. Not all motor oils are the same, and it’s important for your engine that you purchase the kind of oil that meets your bike’s specifications.
When you go to the parts store, look for Suzuki’s  recommendation, SAE 10W-40 motor oil. It’s always wise to use the manufacturer’s recommendation to avoid any engine trouble or accidentally voiding your warranty.
But what exactly do those letters and numbers mean? The SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers, the organization responsible for creating these motor oil codes.
The numbers represent the oil’s viscosity or thickness. The “10” stands for how thick the oil is when it’s cold—which is why it’s in front of the “W,” which stands for winter—while the “40” signifies how thick the oil is at warmer temperatures.
Thinner oils use smaller numbers. And the thinner the oil, the more easily it can move through your engine.
If you’re still unsure which oil to buy for your M5, consider these three options:

How often to change the oil on a 2008 Suzuki Boulevard M50

Suzuki recommends changing the oil on your 2008 Boulevard M50 every 4,000 miles. If you don’t ride your bike that often, it might be easier to remember to change the oil every six months.
Since those are big time ranges, it’s important to check your oil periodically to ensure it’s still in good condition. We recommend getting into the habit of checking your oil every other time your fill up the fuel tank or at least once a month.
When checking your oil, keep an eye out for these signs that it needs replacing:
  • Dark brown or black oil (clean oil is closer in appearance to dark honey)
  • Oil with a grimy, gritty, or sandy texture
  • Strange noises coming from the engine
  • Foul smells coming from the engine, like burning, smoke, or oil
  • Decreased engine performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

When you have the right kind of oil and a new oil filter, you’re ready to begin changing the oil on your 2008 Boulevard M50. These are the
essential tools and supplies
you’ll need:
  • A ratchet wrench and a 17-millimeter socket
  • A drain pan
  • An oil filter wrench
  • A torque wrench
  • A funnel
  • A clean towel or rag
When you’re ready to begin, start your bike and let it run for five minutes. This will cause the oil to warm up, which will help it drain faster. Once the engine is warm, turn off the bike and follow the steps below.
Step 1: Remove the oil fill cap.
Step 2: Remove the oil drain plug from the bottom of the bike and position your drain pan to catch the old oil.
Step 3: As the oil drains, remove the old oil filter.
Step 4: Using your finger, apply a thin layer of oil to the new filter’s gasket and screw it into place. Be sure only to tighten the new filter until it is snug.
Step 5: Reinstall the oil drain plug and tighten it to 15 lb-ft.
Step 6: Fill the engine with clean oil and check the level using the window on the right side of the engine.
After you complete these steps, turn the bike on for 30 seconds. Then, check the oil level once more and top it off if necessary.
As one final step, recycle your old oil by pouring it into the new oil container and returning it to the parts store.

Don’t forget regular insurance policy maintenance

Regular maintenance, like oil changes, will help prolong the life of your bike. But maintenance isn’t the only thing you need to do to care for your motorcycle. You also need a quality insurance plan to protect yourself and your ride.
