Suzuki Boulevard C50 engine oil capacity

Before changing your Boulevard’s oil yourself, you’ll need to know how much engine oil your motorcycle needs.
Suzuki Boulevard C50s have an oil capacity of 3.6 quarts or 3.4 liters. Engine oil is sold in different size containers, so be sure to check on the bottle how much oil you’re purchasing so you get the right amount for your motorcycle.

What kind of oil does a Suzuki Boulevard C50 need?

Once you know how much oil your Boulevard needs, the next step is to choose the right kind of oil for your engine. Suzuki recommends Suzuki ECSTAR R7000 10W-40 semi-synthetic oil for the Boulevard C50, and it’s important to try and find the manufacturer’s recommended oil whenever possible.
Not sure what all the letters and numbers mean? The numbers (10 and 40) tell you how viscous the oil is—basically how thick it is—at different temperatures. A 10-40 weight oil remains relatively thin even at extreme temperatures. The “W” stands for winter. You really want to use a 10W-40 oil for your Boulevard C50 because it can withstand extreme temperatures and its low viscosity means it’s less likely to gunk up your engine.
You’ll also notice Suzuki recommends a semi-synthetic oil, which means that the engine oil is made up of conventional oil mixed with synthetic oil and additives. These additives can extend the life of your engine and increase its performance.
While any 10W-40 semi-synthetic oil will technically work for your motorcycle, check out these options for peak engine performance:
  • The genuine article: Suzuki recommends Suzuki ECSTAR R7000 10W-40 semi-synthetic oil
  • Full synthetic option: If you’d rather have a fully synthetic oil, try Valvoline 4-Stroke Motorcycle Full Synthetic SAE 10W-40 Motor Oil
  • For higher temperatures: If you need something with a little extra heat protection, try Mobil 1 V-Twin Full Synthetic Motorcycle Oil 20W-50

How often to change oil on a Suzuki Boulevard C50

So you’ve picked out your engine oil and purchased the number of quarts you need, so now it’s time to
change your oil
.
Suzuki recommends changing the oil on your Boulevard C50 every 4,000 miles. If you opt for a fully synthetic oil, you can squeeze a few more miles out before you need an oil change, but you don’t want to go longer than 7,000-10,000 miles. If you’re not the best at keeping track of your mileage, a good rule of thumb is to change your oil once a year.
You can get a better idea of when your oil needs changing by checking your oil levels regularly. Or, if you notice any of these signs, you’ll want to change your oil right away:
  • New engine noises
  • Oil, smoke, or burning smell
  • Decrease in engine performance

How to change your oil and oil filter

When your motorcycle is due for an oil change, just gather up your new engine oil and a few tools. You’ll need a socket wrench, a pan to catch the old oil, and a filter wrench. You’ll also want to have your replacement filter handy.
First, start your motorcycle and let it run for a few minutes until it reaches normal operating temperature. When your engine is warmed up, shut it off and follow these steps:
  • Remove the oil fill cap to allow air into the crankcase
  • Position your drain pan underneath the engine and remove the drain bolt. Allow all of the old oil to drain into the pan before replacing the drain bolt
  • Use your filter wrench to remove the old filter
  • Install the new filter
  • Refill the oil reservoir with new oil and replace the fill cap
  • Start your motorcycle again and let the engine run to circulate the new oil
Don’t forget to clean up the area where you changed your oil! You can pour the dirty engine oil into a sealed container and take it to a local recycling center.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
