background
The 2006 Scion xB uses a group 25 battery. These batteries are 9 1/16 inches long, 6 7/8 inches wide, and 8 7/8 inches high.
The group code referred to above comes from the Battery Council International (BCI). These group codes make it easier to identify the appropriate batteries for your vehicle. Note that most of these codes are a number followed by a letter, but group 25 is an exception.

How big is a Scion xB battery?

The Scion xB was produced from 2005 to 2014. During that time, the compact car had three potential batteries. The 2006 Scion xB requires a group 25 battery. The dimensions for all group 25 batteries are 9 1/16” long, 6 ⅞” wide, and 8 ⅞” inches high.
If you’re unsure of what battery to use or you just want to double-check that this information is correct, there are a couple of ways to do it.
The first option is to check your owner’s manual. The vehicle’s manual will have a section that will inform you of the proper battery for your car. But what if you’ve misplaced the manual?
Another way to check the battery of the car is to pop the hood and inspect the current battery. The battery will have a sticker on it with the information that you’ll need to select a new battery. When you write down that information, it can also be helpful to take a picture of the battery.
A misplaced or poorly transposed number or letter can have you picking up the wrong battery. If you take a picture of the battery, you can visually compare the two. The batteries should look similar, if not identical. All of the positions, sizes, and shapes of the terminals on the battery should be the same.
If you’re going to an auto parts supply store (such as
O’Reilly Auto Parts
) to pick up a new battery, you can ask them for assistance with locating the proper battery for you. The more information you can provide to them, the better they’ll be able to assist you.

2006 Scion xB battery life

The 2006 Scion xB is a gas-powered vehicle, which means that the battery, when functioning properly, is charging itself. As you drive, the engine will help keep your battery charged and ready to go.
But this type of charging is not permanent. Car batteries, like any other type of battery, need to be replaced on occasion. And like any other car part, you’ll want to keep an eye on how the battery is performing.
It’s recommended that you change your car battery every four to five years. If you’re driving a 2006 model, that means you should likely be on your third battery since the original.
Still, how often you should replace the battery depends on a number of factors, including how much you drive your vehicle and the temperature conditions that you live and store your vehicle in.
It’s a good idea to test your car’s battery regularly. To do that, you’ll need a multimeter. Open the hood of your vehicle and locate the battery. Connect the multimeter to the battery (positive to positive and negative to negative) and ask an assistant to turn on the ignition for no more than 15 seconds.
If you get a reading below 9 volts, your battery is weak. If it’s below 5 volts, you’ll want to replace the battery as soon as possible.
While this test is fairly simple, there are other ways to keep an eye (or ear) out for signs of battery trouble. One of the most common signs of battery trouble is a prolonged clicking noise when attempting to start your car. Other signs include a constant need to
jump-start your car
, visible corrosion on the battery itself, and dimmer lights.

How to keep your Scion xB battery healthy

There are a number of strategies to help improve the health of your 2006 Scion xB battery.
The easiest way to ensure the health of your Scion battery is to start and drive your car regularly. There are periods when you won’t need to drive your car, but it will help your battery if you take it for a spin every week or so. Remember that the battery gets charged by the engine, so driving the car will actually keep the battery alive longer, especially in colder weather.
Speaking of colder weather, cold can be detrimental to battery health. If possible, try to store your car in an enclosed location, like a garage, especially if you live in a cold climate.
Another way to ensure a healthy battery in your xB is to make sure that you aren’t wasting it. One of the number one ways to end up with a dead battery is forgetting to turn off your lights. This is true of both headlights and interior lights.
Before you leave your vehicle, make sure that all internal and external lights that you control are off—and make sure that all doors are closed. An open door will keep the interior lights on.
Finally, be sure that you’re keeping up with your routine
car maintenance
. If there are other issues in your Scion’s electrical system, it could be depleting your battery more quickly. Regular check-ups and essential maintenance will help to keep your battery going as long as possible.
