, this year 30-second Super Bowl commercial spots have been going for around $6.5 million, or even more, in some cases. While this does make advertising at the Super Bowl a big investment, we can expect to see car commercials from at least a few brands. In fact, four car brands have already announced they’ve scored some coveted air time during the big game.
In years past, advertisers would buy their spot and wait until the event to air their commercial for the first time. Luckily, this year some teasers have been released early. Here’s what we know we can expect to see from the 2022 Super Bowl car commercials.
points out, BMW has the potential to make waves with this Super Bowl commercial, since it’s the first time the carmaker is airing one since 2015. In the BMW teaser, we see a coffee shop employee attempting to give a coffee to Zeus, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger, who is the Greek God of Lightning.
We expect this full 2022 Super Bowl car commercial to play off the electricity and lightning theme, and promote the BMW i3.
Another commercial expected to promote an all-electric vehicle is Kia’s “Robo Dog” advertisement.
The commercial teaser doesn’t reveal too much about what it will be about. All viewers see is a close up of an adorable robot dog while “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler plays in the background.
, the reason for the robotic dog feature is actually an integrated marketing campaign Kia is running. The car brand partnered with Petfinder Foundation, to help pets get adopted and sell cars in the process.
Thrill Driver (Nissan)
Super Bowl commercials are often productions that can feel like television show episodes or even full-length movies. Nissan’s trailer for Thrill Driver appears to follow that trend with an action-packed, comedy special of a commercial.
The cast seems to be star-studded, featuring Eugene Levy, Danai Gurira and Dave Bautista, and of course, a shiny, brand new, Nissan Z sports coupe.
General Motors
While we didn’t get a teaser from General Motors, the car brand has announced they’ll be airing some kind of commercial in this year’s game. We can only speculate about what the advertisement might be about, or the vehicle it might feature, there’s a good chance it might center around electric vehicles.
As we’ve seen from the other car brands that have released trailers for 2022 commercials, electric vehicles seem to be the star of the show. Plus, this is General Motors third year in a row airing a Super Bowl commercial, and last year they did an electric vehicle commercial. We’d be surprised if the trend didn’t continue.
