background
The
Kia
EV6 is scheduled to make its way to the United States next year, and it has drivers interested. Kia has worked with electric vehicles before, like the plug-in hybrid Kia Sorento PHEV, but the Kia EV6 will be fully electric. Consumers might have to wait to get behind the wheel of the EV6, but critics are getting the chance to test it.
According to
CNET
, the Kia EV6 is promising, even if its testing time was limited. If this is any indication of how the vehicle will be once it comes to market, the Kia electric crossover SUV is one to keep an eye on.
The new EV6 will use the Electric Global Modular Platform as its foundation.

Specs of the 2022 Kia EV6

The EV6 is a compact crossover SUV that will be the first Kia vehicle to use the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP). This EV platform will be used by select vehicles produced by Kia's parent company, Hyundai Motor Group. It might be the first Kia car to use the E-GMP platform, but other Hyundai vehicles, including the Ioniq 5, have showcased its potential.
American drivers interested in the Kia EV6 will have three options to choose from. Two EV6 variants offered will be rear-wheel drive, powered by a 58-kWh battery and a 77.4-kWh battery that will produce 167 and 218 horsepower, respectively.
For drivers interested in a more powerful version of the Kia EV6, an all-wheel-drive variant will also be available. This will produce 313 horsepower through a combination of the larger battery and dual motors.
The range of this new electric crossover has not been officially revealed yet. However, the CNET article noted that it will likely be around 300 miles. This is a fairly standard range for this type of vehicle.

How did the Kia EV6 do in tests?

CNET was able to test drive one of the rear-wheel-drive EV6 models and the all-wheel-drive variant. While they had a limited time and could only drive on a course, their impressions were positive.
One thing that stuck out on the Kia EV6 is the i-Pedal system, an innovative one-pedal driving mode. EV6 drivers can also activate a regenerative braking system, which can extend an EV’s range by regenerating energy when the car stops. These are just a few examples of the innovative technology on display in the Kia EV6.
CNET said the Kia EV6 was a fun vehicle to drive. Its steering is comfortable, and it demonstrates impressive power and acceleration.

When will the EV6 launch?

American drivers interested in the Kia EV6 will have to wait until 2022 to purchase one. An exact release date is not yet known, and the official price of each trim has not been released.
Kia did sell pre-order versions of the EV6 First Edition, though, which went for $58,500 each. These early adopter vehicles were high-end versions of the all-wheel-drive EV6. This means the base models will likely cost less than this.
The three versions of the EV6 won't be the only trim options, either, as a GT performance model will launch later on. The Kia EV6 GT is expected to have an impressive 576 horsepower.
