background
As the car market continues to expand its SUV offerings,
minivan
sales are dwindling. Few car brands continue to produce this body style. So how do some of the last living models compare? Let’s cross-examine the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica vs. Honda Odyssey.
The latter has been in production since 1994. However, the Pacifica is a new iteration of Chrysler’s previous Town & Country minivan, which predates the Odyssey by five years.

Minivan mechanics

The Honda Odyssey has earned its reputation as an efficient vehicle that handles and shifts seamlessly. This is thanks to its 3.5-liter V6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission. It’s capable of 280 hp.
The Chrysler Pacifica is available with a 3.6-liter V6 that makes 287 hp, while paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. Or, buyers can opt for a hybrid model that mates a continuously variable transmission to dual electric motors and the same V6.
According to
Car and Driver
, all-wheel drive is also an option for Pacifica owners. The Odyssey has front-wheel drive only.
As is often the case with brand new models, carmakers usually have some kinks to work out in terms of reliability. For this reason,
Consumer Reports
awarded the 2022 Honda Odyssey a better score than the 2022 Chrysler Pacifica. The 2017 launch of the redesigned minivan saw several recalls and issues with the transmission, most notably.

Chrysler Pacifica vs. Honda Odyssey: Performance

Both minivans performed similarly during road tests, especially in terms of acceleration. Their 0 to 60 mph time hovered around the 8.0-second mark.
The transmission in the Pacifica’s hybrid variant was smoother than its gasoline counterpart and the Odyssey. However, its braking capabilities were not as impressive.
In terms of fuel economy, the Honda Odyssey is rated at 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. The Chrysler Pacifica manages 31 mpg on the highway. The hybrid can travel up to 33 miles on electric power alone, for a combined rate of 84 MPGe.
Neither minivan is equipped with great headlights, although the Odyssey’s are slightly better than those on the Pacifica. But, the latter is capable of towing up to 3,600 lbs, which is slightly more than its rival.

Chrysler Pacifica vs. Honda Odyssey: Inside the cabin

Dimensions are nearly identical across these competing minivans. The 2022 Chrysler Pacifica has seven trim levels to choose from, starting at $38,690. Pricing is a little more affordable with the 2022 Honda Odyssey at $34,335. Buyers have five different trim options.
Ride comfortability is more favorable in the Chrysler Pacifica vs. Honda Odyssey, as per
Car and Driver
. The Odyssey no longer comes with an integrated vacuum cleaner for 2022. Meanwhile, the Pacifica boasts a new in-cabin air-filtration system.
While both minivans definitely have a lot of cargo room, the Pacifica’s is slightly more efficient. The Odyssey requires some heavy lifting to remove the second-row seats. But these captain chairs are more comfortable considering there is less cushion in the Pacifica’s Stow ‘n Go seats.
Honda offers buyers a quiet cabin and an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The Pacifica’s is 10.1 inches, by comparison, with optional rear-seat entertainment.

Safety ratings and warranty

Both automakers offer owners the same warranty terms: three years or 36,000 miles for basic coverage, and five years or 60,000 miles for the drivetrain. Chrysler includes an additional two years or 24,000 miles of roadside aid over Honda.
The two minivans are top safety picks for the IIHS. They provide excellent crash protection and are both equipped with advanced safety features. Adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection all come standard.
The battle of Chrysler Pacifica vs. Honda Odyssey really comes down to buyer preference. Both minivans are capable of delivering comfort and spaciousness. When you find the vehicle that best suits your lifestyle,
