The 2022 Chevy Suburban ranked highly in
Consumer Reports’
list of vehicles that cost the most to fill up, with an average cost per full tank being about $108. While the tank can hold 28 gallons of gas and has an average range of 448 miles per tank, this cost per tank still leaves the average driver spending over $3,000 per year on fuel for the Chevy Suburban.
And to make matters worse, on top of the expensive gas cost, the Chevy Suburban doesn’t have good fuel economy ratings, either.
Consumer Reports found the overall gas mileage to be 16 mpg, with 11 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway.
That means drivers who have a Chevy Suburban are typically spending a lot on fuel to not get very far, causing frequent trips to the gas station and a dent in their wallets.

The Chevy Suburban has low-reliability ratings
Another issue with the Chevy Suburban is the car’s reliability ratings. Consumer Reports determines predicted reliability for a vehicle using data on how a model has performed in the past as an indicator of future performance.
The data is collected from Consumer Reports subscribers who own the vehicle.
Based on the subscriber data, as well as a comparison to the very similar Chevrolet Tahoe data, the 2022 Chevrolet Suburban received the lowest possible predicted reliability rating—a one out of five.
This indicates that the latest model of the Chevy Suburban is expected to be less reliable than other new vehicles on the road, which could be a safety issue among other things.
Additionally, the 2022 Chevy Suburban has been recalled one time by the National Highway Traffic Safety Association due to a seat belt malfunction.
The Chevy Suburban road test had both highs and lows
Evidently, the Chevy Suburban has some flaws that are important to take into consideration before purchasing. But, it’s also worth noting that in terms of overall drive and features tested on a road test, the Chevy Suburban had both highs and lows.
In terms of highs,
Consumer Reports
found the interior room and comfort of third-row seats
to be top-notch, as well as the cargo space to be one of the best on the market. Plus, the infotainment system was easy to use, the ride was smooth, and the noise level in the car was virtually nonexistent.
However, there were some lows in the road test, too. Consumer Reports found the braking and agility of the vehicle to be less than stellar, and the tall hood of the car can compromise visibility. Other issues were with the gear selector and high step-in to the vehicle.
Bottom line
At the end of the day, it’s important to have all the necessary information about a vehicle before you make a purchasing decision.
When it comes to the Chevy Suburban, in our opinion, the cons outweigh the pros as the car is costly, unreliable, and has features that might interfere with driving.
But, these things might not be deal breakers for you. The important thing is that you have all the information you can get before you purchase a car, and now you have a bit more context into the Chevy Suburban.
