Why is my insurance so expensive for a 2020 Kia Forte?
I'm 19 and live in New York. I have one accident on my record. When I shop around for car insurance, my quotes have been $600 a month. I'm currently paying less than that with liability only. Why is it so expensive?

The ones that have the biggest impact are age, driving record, and where you live. Since you are still considered a young driver and you have an accident on your record, your insurance rates will be significantly higher than an older driver with a clean record.
What’s more, insurance in New York tends to be pricier because it’s a no-fault state with a lot of insurance fraud.
The other factor to consider here is that having
liability coverage
only is always less expensive than full-coverage insurance. If your Kia is financed, lenders will likely require you to have both
comprehensive coverage
and collision coverage
, which can be expensive. The price difference between liability-only and full-coverage insurance can seem extreme, but the latter will protect both you and your vehicle in the event of an accident.
Continue shopping around to find the best price. If you’ve only been looking at larger carriers, try to get quotes from smaller regional carriers as well.
