Why is my 2014 Chrysler Town & Country making a ticking noise?

I drive my husband to his weekly shuffleboard game. We were on our way over the other night when this ticking noise became audible during the drive. At one point my husband—who served in the Marine Corps—told me to get ready to tuck and roll, and he was serious. But cooler heads prevailed. What’s the cause of the ticking sound coming from my 2014 Chrysler Town & Country?

The most likely issues causing a ticking sound in a 2014
Chrysler Town & Country
are low oil, a problem with the drive belt, or an exhaust leak. No need to tuck and roll—that pesky ticking sound is something that can be easily solved.
Here’s more about each potential issue:
  • Low oil—Oil keeps your engine lubricated and prevents damage due to heat and friction. If the oil in your engine is low—either due to a leak or due to consumption—a ticking sound can develop within the engine. If you know your oil is low, top it off and pay attention to whether the ticking stops. If it doesn’t, take your minivan to a Chrysler dealership for repair.
  • Drive belt problem—Drive belts help run various engine components, such as the alternator or power steering pump. These belts have to run in a way so as to not touch each other (or other components). If contact occurs, you might start to hear a ticking or chirping sound coming from the engine bay. An out-of-line drive belt can cause key engine parts to stop working.
  • Exhaust leak—Sometimes a bad gasket can cause an exhaust leak, and you might hear a mild ticking noise coming from the engine. This is usually easily fixable when done by a trained mechanic.
