Why are pop-up headlights illegal?

I don’t understand why pop-up headlights were banned. Do they make driving more dangerous somehow, or was there another reason that they were made illegal?

A great question! While pop-up headlights have been banned in much of Europe, they aren’t actually illegal in the United States!
However, cars typically aren’t manufactured with pop-up headlights anymore because it’s difficult to comply with modern safety guidelines that have been imposed in Europe. European law states that cars should have a front that can twist in order to protect pedestrians in the event of an accident.
This is a difficult thing to do with pop-up headlights and in 2004, pop-up headlights were banned in Europe. Since car manufacturers attempt to appeal to a global market, cars with pop-up headlights aren’t really produced anymore.
While you’re learning about pop-up headlights, consider learning about your insurance options, too.
