Where was the first Ford dealership located?
I’ve been interested in Ford history lately and I’m getting conflicting answers to one of my questions. Though many dealerships claim to be “one of the first,” where was THE first Ford dealership located?

The history of the Ford company in America can be quite fascinating! According to the archives at the Henry Ford museum, the first Ford dealership was located in San Francisco, CA. A Buffalo native named William L. Hughson was the first dealer, and he opened his dealership under the name Standard Motor Car Co. on January 15, 1903.
Here are some more fun facts about early Ford production:
- Hughson actually had trouble selling Fords at first and had to rent many of them out as taxi cabs
- Eventually, Hughson’s dealership found massive success, allowing him to create a network of 120 Ford dealers before he died in 1967
- Today, the second Ford dealership (founded in March 1903) still operates in St. Cloud, Minnesota as the oldest car dealership in America
