Can you get a driving permit at 14?

I want to get my driving permit as soon as possible. I’m currently 13, but I turn 14 in two months. Can I get a learner’s permit at the age of 14?

Getting a
learner’s permit
at 14 isn’t possible in every state. But luckily, you can apply for a learner’s permit when you’re 14 in these six states:
  • Alaska
  • Arkansas
  • Iowa
  • Kansas
  • North Dakota
  • South Dakota
If you don’t live in one of these states, you can also get a driver’s license when you’re 14.5 or 14.75 in these three states:
  • Idaho
  • Michigan
  • Montana
Regardless of when you get your driving permit, you still have to be at least 16 to get a driver’s license in 49 states. Only South Carolina allows residents to get a driver’s license at 15.5, although this is a restricted/provisional license.
If you get your permit at 14, you have two years to figure out how to drive and get comfortable behind the wheel. You also have time to shop around for car insurance with the
