What type of insurance coverage should I get for a new car in Ohio?

"I'm 24 years old and I've been on my parents' insurance until recently. I'm getting my first car, a 2021 Kia Soul, and I'm not sure what coverage I need.

I have a clean driving record and I have been insured for the last six years. Is there a specific company I should look at?"

“When determining which car insurance is best for you, you’ll need to look at a few different things.
First, look at Ohio’s required
state minimum car insurance
. This is the amount of coverage you are legally required to have to operate your vehicle on the road.
If your vehicle is financed, you most likely will also be required to carry both
collision car insurance
and
comprehensive insurance
.
From there, determine how much you can spend each month on car insurance. You’ll want to shop around and see which carrier can offer you the highest level of coverage for that amount.
You can never be over-insured, so if you can afford higher coverage, you should get it. Every company is different, so you’ll have to comparison shop to see which plan and rate is the best fit for you. “
