What size fuse do I need for a high output alternator?
I’m upgrading the electrical system on my car, and I’ve decided to replace my alternator with a high output alternator, except I don’t know what size the fuse should be to accommodate this upgrade. Do you know what size fuse I need for a high output alternator?

We’re glad to hear you’re concerned about safety while upgrading your car! The fuse size needed for a high output alternator depends on your new alternator’s amperage.
While the size of your fuse depends on the amperage of your alternator, you should generally select a fuse that can handle more amperage than your alternator is able to output.
For example, if your alternator outputs 200 amps, you should choose a fuse that’s no less than 200 amps.
Before selecting a fuse, ensure that your car’s wires can handle your new alternator’s amperage to avoid the wires heating up and causing a fire. If your wires can’t handle the alternator’s amperage, you’ll have to select a fuse small enough that allows the fuse to blow before starting a fire.
