How do you turn off Toyota Safety Sense?

I purchased a new Toyota a few months ago that I love. It drives like a dream… most of the time. Occasionally, the Safety Sense will engage for no apparent reason and has caused more than one near-collision. Is there a way to turn off Toyota Safety Sense?

If you do not have your owner’s manual for any reason, you can find it on toyota.com or may request a new physical copy from your dealership.
Before turning off TSS, you should know:
  • TSS can prevent you from being involved in an accident.
  • Toyota dealerships can service the TSS system to ensure it is working correctly.
  • If you’re in an accident, your
    car insurance
company could revoke coverage if they learn the safety features were disabled.
  • Toyota could revoke their warranty if they learn the safety features have been disabled.
  • The system is composed of multiple individual features that will each have to be disabled manually (if it’s even possible).
If you choose to proceed, the TSS system is composed of the following:
  • Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, or PCS w/PD
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, or DRCC
  • Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, or LDA w/SA
  • Automatic High Beams, or AHB
  • Lane Tracing Assist, or LTA
  • Road Sign Assist, or RSA
