If you conduct
routine maintenance
on your car, you shouldn’t have to worry about your brakes. But in the off-chance that your brakes should fail, follow these steps:- Take your foot off the gas immediately.
- Whether you’re driving an automatic or a manual, try to downshift to a lower gear.
- Pump the brakes in an attempt to regain control.
- Try to steer safely to the side of the road.
- Apply the emergency brake.
- Turn on your hazard lights.
