What is the best way to get rid of a scratch on the body of a car?

I was trying to help my dog into the car, and unfortunately his nails put a pretty deep scratch into the side of my car. What's the best way to fix the scratch?

I’m so sorry that happened! Luckily, since your dog caused the scratch, chances are it doesn’t go down into the sheet metal, which makes it easy to fix without the help of a professional. In most cases, some touch-up paint will take care of the problem. You should be able to find the correct color at an auto parts store or with the automaker or dealership.
If the scratch is deeper, though, you’re probably going to have to enlist the services of an auto body shop. If you have
comprehensive coverage
, your car insurance company should foot the bill. When you get the vehicle back, it should look as good as new!
If you don’t have comprehensive coverage, you might want to consider adding it to your car insurance policy. The easiest way to do this is through
