What is EV Mode for the Prius?

I just bought a used 2020 Toyota Prius Prime and am a little confused about what the EV Mode does. I’d check the owner’s manual but it didn’t come with the car.

! EV Mode for the Prius allows your vehicle to drive using only electrical power for up to 25 miles. The Prius will switch back to regular fuel once the battery is drained.
It’s recommended that you only use EV Mode in the following conditions:
  • You’re only planning to drive for a short distance
  • You’re going to be driving at lower speeds
