How long do car engines last?

I want to buy an older vehicle that has about 150,000 miles, but I still want to get decent mileage out of it. How long do car engines typically last?

You may be in luck. It used to be that 150,000 miles was about the end for a vehicle’s engine, but with improved technology and design, the average lifespan of an engine has increased to about 200,000 to 250,000 miles.
That said, the actual lifespan varies depending on the individual car. This could be based on things like the car’s make and model or whether it’s been well maintained by the previous owner. It’s a good idea to do your research on the vehicle using a site like CarFax before making a purchase.
