What is cruise control in a Honda Civic?

I’m a newer driver so I’m still getting used to some of the functions of my 2019 Civic. I’ve heard people mention cruise control is useful for the highway. What is cruise control on a Honda Civic?

Cruise control is indeed a useful tool for highway driving. Essentially, cruise control in a Honda Civic allows you to set a desired speed, and your car will modulate its own braking and acceleration to maintain it.
Most 2016 or newer Honda Civics are equipped with an adaptive cruise control (ACC) system. This takes standard cruise control a step further by letting you set a following distance from the vehicle ahead of you, as well.
Here’s how to use your Honda Civic cruise control:
  • Press the Main button on the steering wheel (ACC will appear on your dashboard)
  • Accelerate to your desired speed
  • Press Set/– on your steering wheel while removing your foot from the gas
  • Hit Res/+ on the wheel to increase your speed or Set/– to decrease your speed
  • Press the button with four distance bars on your steering wheel to set your follow interval—you can choose either a short, middle, long, or extra-long distance
If at any time you want to regain full control of your Civic’s speed, either hit Cancel or Main on the steering wheel or simply depress your brakes.
Now that you know how to cruise in your Civic, it’s important to make sure you’re protected during long highway drives.
