What is covered under a Ford Certified Pre-owned warranty?
My husband wants a new Ford Explorer, but he doesn’t want to pay full freight, so now he’s looking at a newer used model. We’re hearing a lot of talk about a certified pre-owned warranty, as we know we won’t get a factory warranty on a used Ford. What is covered under a Ford Certified Pre-owned warranty?

A Ford certified pre-owned warranty is pretty extensive, covering more than 1,000 parts and lasting up to one year or 12,000 miles, whichever is reached first.
One of the great things about a used Ford with a certified pre-owned warranty is that it’s been put under the microscope in the form of a rigorous, 172-point inspection. Along with the aforementioned warranty coverage, all certified pre-owned Fords are covered by a limited powertrain warranty that lasts up to 7 years or up to 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. A certified pre-owned warranty also carries 24/7 roadside assistance.
Under a certified pre-owned warranty, you’ll get coverage for the following components:
- Engine
- Transmission
- Suspension
- Brakes
- Electrical
- Steering
- Front- and rear-wheel drive
- Electrical
- Safety
- Audio
- Technology
- A/C and heating
The roadside assistance coverage lasts for the entirety of the warranty.
In order for a vehicle to qualify for a Ford certified pre-owned warranty, it must be under five years old and meet the following criteria:
- Be a Ford car, SUV, or truck (up tp the 350 Series)
- Have fewer than 80,000 miles on its odometer
- Have a complete vehicle history report
