The Lincoln certified pre-owned warranty is a protection plan for used Lincoln vehicles. It builds on Lincoln’s 50,000-mile or four-year new car limited warranty with up to six years or 100,000 miles of protection, whichever comes first.
But what does that really mean?
You'll get the remaining new vehicle warranty benefits if you buy a CPO vehicle from a Lincoln or
Ford
dealership and it is less than four years old and has less than 50,000 miles on it. Although Lincoln doesn’t specify how new a CPO vehicle has to be, it must have less than 60,000 miles on the odometer. So, there’s a good chance the original warranty won’t have been exhausted.
Once the remaining warranty benefits run out, your CPO warranty will kick in and cover your vehicle for six years from the original new-vehicle warranty start date or up to 100,000 on the odometer, whichever comes first.
If your Lincoln needs servicing, Lincoln-trained technicians will repair defects in parts or workmanship. The coverage won’t include wear-and-tear items, though. Plus, you’ll have to pay a standard deductible of $100.
Keep in mind that the CPO warranty isn’t the same as an extended warranty, so coverage isn’t as comprehensive. Lincoln offers four optional Extended Service Plan Packages if you want extra coverage.

The Lincoln CPO warranty provides basic coverage for defects in either labor or manufactured parts—but not for every vehicle component. Areas of coverage include:
- Engine
- Transmission
- Front-wheel drive system
- Rear-wheel drive system
- Front and rear suspension
- Electrical systems
- Brakes
- Steering
- Technology components
- Emissions
- Factory audio system
- Safety systems
- Air conditioning and heating
Remember that if your vehicle is still under the new car warranty, you’ll get even more coverage!
What isn’t covered
Unfortunately, not everything is covered by a Lincoln CPO warranty. These components and services aren’t covered under this protection plan:
- Standard maintenance (oil changes, fluid refills)
- Tires and wheel alignment
- Interior elements such as upholstery, light bulbs, and carpeting
- Most suspension parts (including ball joints, bushings, struts, and shock absorbers)
Not surprisingly, the CPO warranty doesn’t include standard repairs caused by wear and tear, misuse, or neglect. For instance, if your Lincoln hasn’t been serviced or maintained or there’s rust or peeling paint, repair work isn’t covered under the CPO warranty.

Is a Lincoln CPO warranty transferable?
Yes! Your Lincoln’s CPO warranty is fully transferable, which is a great selling feature. Plus, Lincoln doesn’t charge a transfer fee to switch coverage to the new owner.
Lincoln CPO program certification process
You might be wondering how a CPO Lincoln is different from a used Lincoln. It all comes down to the rigorous 200-point inspection that CPO vehicles must pass. Plus, the vehicle has to have less than 60,000 miles and a good CARFAX vehicle history report.
The 200-point inspection covers everything from airbags and sound systems to exterior paint and the vehicle's frame. If the factory-trained Lincoln technicians find parts that don’t pass their quality control, they’ll replace them with new factory-authorized parts.
The certification process includes road testing and researching the vehicle’s history and maintenance records. If the technicians find that the car isn’t in top shape, they’ll sell it as a regular used Lincoln instead of a certified pre-owned Lincoln.
