What is a moving violation in Georgia?

I just moved to Atlanta and my friend warned me not to get any moving violations because the fines are steep. I want to drive safely, but I’m not sure what behaviors put me at risk. What counts as a moving violation?

The term “moving violation” is broad and generally means you broke a traffic law while your vehicle was in motion. These sorts of convictions often bring expensive

 rate increases.
Some examples of moving violations in Georgia include:
  • Speeding
  • Reckless driving
  • Failure to move over for an emergency vehicle
  • DUIs
  • Unlawful passing of a school bus
  • Running a red light
     or stop sign
These are just some of the offenses that count as moving violations in Georgia—there are many more out there. To avoid a moving violation and points on your license, make sure you follow all traffic laws and posted speed limit signs.
