What is a moving violation?

I’m reading up on different citations before getting my license. I noticed there are more moving violations than non-moving violations. What is a moving violation?

Studying traffic citations is a great way to start off as a responsible driver.
A moving violation is when you violate traffic law while your vehicle is in motion.
Here are some classic examples of moving violations to give you a better idea:
  • Speeding
  • Running a red light
  • Failing to yield
  • Tailgating
  • Driving under the influence
In comparison, here are a few common non-moving violations:
  • Parking in front of a fire hydrant
  • Parking in a no-parking zone
  • Not having car insurance
  • Having an invalid driver’s license
  • Having a broken taillight
  • Having overly tinted windows
As you learn more about driving and start gaining some experience yourself, you’ll begin committing moving violations and non-moving violations to memory more easily. To avoid getting a non-moving violation for improper car insurance, though, just download
