What happens if my car fails the emissions test?

I just bought my first car. It’s used and I’m worried that it won’t pass emissions. What happens if my car fails the emissions test?

If your vehicle doesn’t pass its emissions test, you will have the opportunity to make the necessary repairs and then retest. Think about the emissions test more like a diagnostics experience.
A technician may diagnose a problem that’s affecting your vehicle’s emissions. If they do find a problem, you’ll fail the test—but you’ll also get valuable information about the source of the problem.
After a failed test, you usually have six months to get repairs performed. Then you’ll need to retest. If you pass, you’re good to go!
If you fail the test for a second time, there’s a possibility for a waiver in some states if you can prove you’ve spent enough money to solve the problem. But don’t worry about this for now.
For the time being, make sure to perform all the appropriate

on your vehicle. Drive safely and focus on being a responsible owner. Make sure your
