Hi! I’d be happy to help you decipher what
Ford Explorer
axle code 46 means!
First, the axle code can be found on the certification label located on the latch face of the left front door—you can use this code to identify your truck’s axle and gear ratio. The label also contains information on everything from the vehicle’s exterior paint color to the VIN number bar code.
Axle code 46 means that you have an open differential with a 3.73 ratio. If you have any questions at all about your axle, check with a certified mechanic. Those codes can be tricky to decipher (especially because Ford reuses numbers sometimes!).
While you take care of your truck’s routine maintenance, why not update your
auto insurance
as well?
