What are the best things to do in Sarasota?
My husband and I are almost ready to retire, so we’re road tripping to scope out places to move to once we’re ready to stop working. Several of our friends moved to Sarasota, so we at least know some people. However, they’re a bit evasive about the recreational aspects of living there. What are some fun things to do in Sarasota?

- Tour the Ringling Museum of Art. Famed ringmaster John Ringling may have created The Greatest Show on Earth, but during that time, both he and his wife Mabel used their fortune to build a Venetian-style mansion in Sarasota. They filled the interior with millions of dollars worth of art and artifacts, then donated it to the state after they passed. Today, you can view the mansion and art in its entirety for $25.
- Take a dip or soak in some sun at Lido Beach. This 3,000-foot stretch of beach is the most beautiful in Sarasota, offering you the chance to dip your toes in white sand or go for a swim in the calm, gentle waters.
- Go golfing. If you aren’t a golfer yet, get a jump-start on one of the most popular activities for retirees. Within 20 miles of downtown Sarasota, you have your choice of 93 different courses.
