What are some good first cars from Ford?

My son is turning 18 in a few weeks and I want to surprise him with a new car. We’re a Ford family, so I want his first car to be a Ford. What Ford models would make a good first car?

Turning 18 is a milestone! Some good first cars from
Ford
 include the Ford Edge, Ford Fiesta, and Ford Escape. Here are some highlights of each model to help you decide if one of these is a good choice for your son:
  • Ford Fiesta
     (MSRP $15,235): Spacious for a smaller car, choice of engine and sedan or hatchback
  • Ford Edge
     (MSRP $39,440): A midsize SUV with a responsive and smooth driving experience
  • Ford Escape
     (MSRP $28,660): A compact SUV with plenty of standard driver assists and your choice of powertrain

Ford Mustang
 is also on the table, but it’s a controversial choice for a first car. Even though it’s an eye-catcher with impressive performance, the Mustang also has high maintenance and
