Should I rent a car in St. Lucia?

My partner and I are finally taking our dream vacation to St. Lucia. We’re staying at a great resort, but we’d like to explore the island a bit as well. Should we rent a car in St. Lucia?

St. Lucia is one of the most beautiful destinations in the world—you and your partner are sure to have a wonderful time! Excursions are a great way to see a lot of what the island has to offer, but if you really want the freedom to explore at your own pace, then you should rent a car in St. Lucia.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when
renting a car
in St. Lucia:
  • The cars are right-hand drive: Be sure to allow yourself some time to acclimate to driving on the other side of the road.
  • Not all roads are well-maintained: Though driving in St. Lucia is not difficult, the roads can get a little dicey depending on where you want to go. Consider renting a
    Jeep
or another 4WD vehicle if you plan to see more than just beaches and city scenery.
  • Reserve your car in advance: While St. Lucia offers a host of public transport to save the day if you can’t get a rental, it can get really pricey really fast.
As you’re reserving your rental car, you should also check to make sure you have rental car insurance either through your own
car insurance
or through a credit card. If you don’t have coverage or you’re not sure it’s the best, let
