My GMC Sierra won’t start. Why is there no click?
For some reason, my GMC Sierra won’t start. There’s no click. It was working fine just yesterday but this morning it wouldn’t turn over. I’m getting it towed to a mechanic but what do you think the problem might be? What’s this repair bill going to look like?

There are lots of issues that can prevent your GMC Sierra from starting and with no click. We’re happy to help and list the more common problems that might be causing this:
- Battery issues, including the battery being dead or the terminals getting corroded, are the most common cause of this issue, and the first thing most mechanics will look at
- Blown fuses and relays can cause this problem, too. Those are cheap and easy to fix at home, so if you have time to check before the tow truck arrives, it’s worth investigating
- The key FOB battery might need replacing. If your Sierra has a push-button start, try holding the fob directly over the start button to see if it turns over
- A blown ignition switch might be at fault
- A blown alternator or a failing serpentine belt can also cause this issue
- It’s also possible a bad starter or starter solenoid is preventing the engine from turning over
- Mechanics will likely also see if there’s a clogged fuel filter or if the fuel pump is shot
- If your Sierra is older, it might be an issue with one or more spark plugs
- There might be a wiring issue, too. Wires that are damaged or shorted out can disrupt the engine’s ability to turn over
