Is lane splitting legal in New Mexico?

I was thinking about trading my car for a motorcycle to save myself some money on gas and time on my commutes, but my mom is telling me my plans for time-saving won’t work because lane splitting is illegal in New Mexico. Is that true?

A lot of motorcycle riders are surprised to learn that lane splitting is not legal in
New Mexico
.
Not only is it illegal to overtake or pass another vehicle (motorcycle or otherwise) in the same lane but it’s also illegal to drive between lanes of traffic whether moving or stopped.
Failing to obey the state's traffic laws can result in fines and even points on your New Mexico driving record. Keep your record clean and your car insurance rates low by following the rules of the road and staying single file in your lane.
