Is lane splitting legal in Alabama?

I’m moving to Alabama to be closer to my husband’s family, but I’ve only been to the state once before. However, I’m a huge motorcycle enthusiast, and I want to make sure that I know the law before I move. Can I lane split in Alabama?

Unfortunately, lane splitting is illegal in
Alabama
. According to Alabama Code, Section 32-5A-242 (c), lane splitting is illegal in the Yellowhammer State, as no person shall operate a motorcycle between lanes of traffic or between adjacent lines or rows of vehicles.
Ignoring the law explicitly prohibiting lane splitting could result in a
citation
, fine, and
points
on your
Alabama driving record
. Moreover, drivers don’t anticipate illegally passing motorcycles, making lane splitting even more dangerous.
