Is driving without a license a felony in Massachusetts?

Will I be charged with a felony if I get caught driving without a license in Massachusetts? I know how to drive, but my license expired and I haven’t gotten it renewed. I’m nervous to drive myself anywhere because I don’t know how severe the punishment will be.

Driving without a license
is typically charged as a misdemeanor rather than a felony in the state of
Massachusetts
.
This means that you’ll be charged a fine of up to $500 if you’re caught driving without your license. If this is your second or third conviction, the fine could increase to $1,000 to $2,000.
These infractions will appear on your
driving record
, meaning not only will you face fines, but also increased
car insurance
rates.
Instead of driving yourself around, I recommend visiting your local DMV as soon as possible so you can begin the
renewal process
. You’ll be able to walk out with a paper
Massachusetts driver's license
that allows you to legally drive while you wait for the hard copy to come in the mail. That way, you’ll be able to drive without worrying about potential legal repercussions.
