Is driving a golf cart like driving a car?

My friends and I are planning to learn how to golf this summer and are considering getting around the course in a golf cart. None of us have driven a golf cart before—would it be the same as driving a car?

You’re going to have so much fun learning how to golf together! For the most part, driving a golf cart is very similar to driving a car—it just operates at a legal maximum speed of 25 mph.
You’ll most likely operate an electric golf cart, although there are gas-powered models too. Golf carts operate quite similarly to a car:
  • You start the golf cart with a key
  • Step on the pedal to accelerate
  • Direct the golf cart with a steering wheel
Although golf carts operate at a much lower speed, they can still be dangerous, especially when there are no doors! Here’s how you can drive safely:
  • Always have your seatbelt on when the golf cart is moving
  • Ensure all passengers are seated before driving
  • Ensure all equipment is secured
  • Check your surroundings before moving
  • Slow down when turning
  • Do not accelerate at full speed
  • Do not slam the brakes
  • Check that all the lights (headlights, brake lights, turn signals, etc.) are working
If you plan on purchasing a golf cart and driving it on public roads, you may need to have a valid driver’s license and
