Is an electric car a low-emissions vehicle?
I’ve been doing research on electric cars, there’s a lot of info out there! I am always looking for ways to conserve the environment, and I’ve heard contradicting things about electric cars—that they’re good for the planet, but also that they can also contribute to pollution. Are electric cars low-emission vehicles?

, we currently have many_ low-emissions_ vehicle options to choose from. Here’s what we know about electric cars and low-emission vehicles:
- Low-emissions or light-duty vehicle emissions include cars powered by gasoline, diesel, and E85. Smog-forming pollutants and greenhouse gases emit from their tailpipes.
- Because of their battery, BEVs create more CO2 in production than fossil fuel cars. However, over the course of their lifetime, they produce fewer emissions on a daily basis.
- Globally, the Nissan Leaf is one of the best low-emissions EVs. We also recommend the Chevy Bolt EV, Hyundai Ioniq EV, and the Volkswagen e-Golf.
