Is a seatbelt ticket a moving violation in NJ?

I never wear my seatbelt while driving, but a friend recently told me that I could get a seatbelt ticket for this. Is a seatbelt ticket a moving violation in new jersey?

Your friend is correct—you could get a seatbelt ticket for not buckling up. However, a seatbelt ticket is not a moving violation in NJ.
Let’s learn more about
New Jersey’s seatbelt law
:
  • As of 2010, anybody riding in a passenger vehicle must wear a seatbelt.
  • A ticket for not wearing a seatbelt will result in a fine of $46. No points will be added to your license.
  • Exemptions to the NJ seatbelt law include vehicles that are not manufactured with a seatbelt system, vehicles with fewer safety belts than required for all passengers, and USPS drivers on duty.
Wearing your seatbelt is one of many safe driving tips practices we recommend following while on the open road. Another tip? Use the
