Is a Kia Rio a good first car?

My husband and I have been looking endlessly to find a good car to surprise our son with on his birthday. After doing some research, we’re leaning toward a Kia Rio. Is that a good first car?

Absolutely! Shopping for your teenager’s
first car
) can feel like a massive undertaking when there are countless option to choose from, but you’ll want to make sure the car you pick is reliable, easy to drive, and affordable to maintain—among a few other factors. Here’s why a Kia Rio is a good first car:
  • Easy to drive. Subcompact cars like the Rio make excellent first cars due to their smooth handling and maneuverability, so intimidating parking spots should be a non-issue.
  • Dependable. Recent models of the Kia Rio have great reliability ratings.
  • Affordable. Not only is a Kia Rio one of the most affordable cars to buy new, but their ownership costs and fuel expenses also tend to be on the cheaper side.
  • Good connectivity. Newer Rio models come standard with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, meaning teens can use GPS or hands-free calling while staying focused on the road.
  • Low insurance costs Since the car itself is less expensive,
    Kia Rio car insurance costs
tend to be lower, too—which can go a long way in lowering those sky-high
    teen car insurance premiums
    .
The Kia Rio isn’t perfect though. They lack many modern driver-assistance features that would certainly come in handy for teen drivers. That being said, the Kia Rio is one of the most ideal cars for teen drivers.
