Is a GMC Terrain an SUV?

I’ve done some research and learned that SUVs typically have a bit more towing power than crossovers. However, I don’t have a huge budget for a new ride, and I really like the GMC Terrain. But is the GMC Terrain really an SUV?

Unfortunately, the GMC Terrain is not technically SUV—it’s a small crossover SUV. However, it’s not technically built on a car platform like most other crossovers. Instead, it’s completed on a crossover-specific base created by GMC known as the GMC Theta platform.
Despite the fact that it’s not technically an SUV, the GMC Terrain still offers up to 1,500 pounds of towing capacity via a 1.5-liter turbo-four engine that offers 170 horsepower and up to 230 pound-feet of torque. This towing capacity is about standard for the segment while the engine offers a nice mix of power and fuel economy of up to 30 mpg.
