. The car has been reported to be mechanically reliable but suffers quality control issues, including poorly fitted trims, poor paintwork, and significant gaps between panels. This discrepancy may be due to Tesla’s lack of mass production experience. Fortunately, Tesla owners have been able to resolve issues quickly under warranty.
The J.D. Power Initial Quality Survey profiled Tesla for the first time in 2020 and unofficially scored its vehicles the worst amongst 32 of the major car brands that get surveyed annually. Within the first 90 days of ownership, customers reported 250 problems per 100 Tesla vehicles. This is much higher than the industry average of 166 problems.
